Driving to Dinosaur Provincial Park is an experience in itself. From the flat prairies you suddenly enter a bizarre landscape where nature shaped strange land formations in all kinds of beautiful brown colours. Glaciers scraped the land and the landforms are also the result of water from melting glaciers. You are entering the Badlands where mysterious hoodoos, sleeping giants according to the natives, are watching you.
Go 75 million-years back in time and discover this UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its rich deposits of fossils (including dinosaur bones), extensive badlands and riparian (riverside) habitats.
Walk the trail of the dinosaurs or stop in at the Field Station of the Royal Tyrrell Museum, the park's visitor centre. Take a guided hike or bus tour and make your reservations via the government of Alberta website. Reservations are recommended.
