Teslin Lake

Quick info

Teslin Lake is one of the largest lakes in the territory, at 125 kilometres (78 miles) long and 3 kilometres (2 miles) wide. Its name and the name of the small settlement Teslin, five km (3 miles) to the south, came from the Tlingit Tes-lin-too meaning long narrow lake.
The Nisutlin Bay Bridge crosses Teslin Lake in the south, at the narrowest point of the bay. This bridge, opened in spring 1956, has seven Warren through-truss spans, joined in a rhythmic design. The road bed of this bridge is a see-through metal grating t...

The Nisutlin Bay Bridge crosses Teslin Lake in the south, at the narrowest point of the bay. This bridge, opened in spring 1956, has seven Warren through-truss spans, joined in a rhythmic design. The road bed of this bridge is a see-through metal grating that allows you to watch Teslin Lake underneath as you drive over it. It is the longest bridge on the Alaska Highway (584 m/1,917 feet), and is the third bridge to span this location at the edge of the town of Teslin since the highway was originally built.
Two kilometres north of Teslin is the Teslin River Bridge that spans the Teslin River – a major Yukon river. The 446.95 m (1,466.4 foot) long cantilever bridge is the only original (PRA construction) steel bridge left on the southern Yukon stretch of the Alaska Highway.
Near the shoreline of Teslin Lake you will find a campground and a Bird Observatory. Find out more on the Yukon Wildlife Guide website.
