The nearby valley is also the area known as "the Million Dollar Valley". On January 16, 1942 Smith River and valley where the scenery of 3 Martin B-26s Marauders ran out of fuel and crash-landed in (numbers 40-1464, 40-1501 and 40-1459). The Valley was then nicknamed "Million Dollar Valley" for the value of the aircraft lost in the landing. The crew did survive the crash. Amazingly, so did the Martin B-26s Marauders thanks to aircraft enthusiasts in the 1960s. They were able to locate the Million Dollar Valley wrecks and retrieved all that remained. Today effor...
