Once a thriving community based on the success of a small company-owned asbestos mine, the town was completely demolished or removed in 1992 as an effect of closing the mining operations.
Today a few buildings still remain. The Catholic Church still stands (in 2012) but the hockey arena collapsed around 2008. Today a few buildings still remain. The Catholic Church still stands (in 2012) but the hockey arena collapsed around 2008. The Cassiar mill was involved in a big fire and most burned to the ground Dec. 25, 2000. The tramline which transported ore from the mine down the mountainside to the mill was purchased in the auction but the buyer left it and it still stands. The four old apartment blocks at the east end of town are operational for ongoing site reclamation work.
