Situated at the end of the Portland Canal, and near the Alaska town of Hyder, Stewart, is a unique border town attracting tourists from every corner of the world. The Portland Canal is a narrow saltwater fjord 145 kms long, forming a natural boundary between Alaska and Canada.

The Port of Stewart is the most northerly ice-free port located in one of the most mineral rich regions in North America.
Walk the Bear River Estuary boardwalk and the Bear Viewing Platform at Fish Creek. The Salmon Glacier Self Guided Auto Tour takes you along 14 stops that describe a number of natural and historical features in the area. With 37 km (23 mile) the tour straddles the BC-Alaska border. It begins in Stewart and ends at the viewpoint overlooking the Salmon Glacier.

Stewart and Hyder also get together to host an International Rodeo during the second weekend in June. The rodeo grounds are built at the base of Mount Rainey. And maybe you'll have the opportunity to discover North America's longest Independence Day celebration. Both Stewart and Hyder celebrate their respective countries' births: Canada Day on July 1, and Independence Day three days later.
