The Sullivan Mine was active from 1917 to 2001. During its life it produced ore worth $19 billion dollars, which today would be worth $60 billion. During its peak it was one of the world's largest lead-zinc mines. You can imagine that cleaning up the Sullivan mine at the end of its life has been a big job. Mark Creek flows through the Sullivan mine area and then into the St. Mary River. The 80 million dollars 'Mark Creek watershed restoration project' (today's Kimberley Water Project) was needed to return native cutthroat trout to this once...

During its peak it was one of the world's largest lead-zinc mines. You can imagine that cleaning up the Sullivan mine at the end of its life has been a big job. Mark Creek flows through the Sullivan mine area and then into the St. Mary River. The 80 million dollars 'Mark Creek watershed restoration project' (today's Kimberley Water Project) was needed to return native cutthroat trout to this once-polluted waters. The Eco Park, features a sculpture of a westslope cutthroat trout, celebrating the return of this native species.
Today you can ride the rails through the beautiful Mark Creek valley as you listen to the history of Kimberley and the Sullivan Mine.
